WELLWVU Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Programs aim to increase students’ knowledge of protective factors to keep them safe while drinking & decrease the negative consequences associated with alcohol misuse.

These events can be requested by WVU students, faculty, and staff at locations and events across campus. We also offer custom presentations that can be tailored to specific wellness educational needs. Complete A Program Request FormAn online education program for helping students practice safe & healthy choices entitled "Voices for Change". Incoming undergraduate WVU students under 24 are required to complete the program, but other groups can request access as well. The program provides students with baseline knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues while motivating action & allowing them to set personal goals.
This program is designed to meet the unique needs of your group by providing participants with the opportunity to electronically submit ANY questions, concerns, or topics of interest related to alcohol and other drugs prior to the program that they want to learn about. The submissions are completely anonymous. The content of the session is based heavily on these inquiries, along with current, factual, and helpful information regarding alcohol and other drug misuse.
Duration: Approximately 60 mins.This program, with the support of the Monongalia County Health Department, trains participants in the use of Narcan nasal spray, to be used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency. Narcan is designed to help reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes. Fentanyl test strips are also discussed as part of this training. A quick, interactive game where students can put their knowledge of standard alcohol proportions to the test! During Bartender School, students will have a pop quiz with a member of WELLWVU staff to learn tips to keep them safe & healthy while drinking. An extended version of Bartender School featuring in-depth discussion about alcohol use is also available for classrooms and student organizations.

C.H.A.P.T.E.R. familiarizes participants with the broad definition of hazing and helps participants be able to recognize, prevent, and respond to hazing activities. This program provides education about the warning signs for alcohol poisoning, and raises awareness of resources, services, and strategies for hazing prevention and reporting.

This is a “get up & move around” team game that takes students through a day in the life of WVU students! CHOICES allows students to work through the storylines & together learn protective factors related to alcohol consumption along the way.

TIPS for the University addresses the difficult problems of alcohol misuse on college campuses. Following successful completion of the training, participants will be TIPS certified for 3 years. This interactive program encourages an informal & conversational atmosphere in which the students are the experts! Students are the ones who can lead the way to creating a responsible campus environment & TIPS shows us that!
Maximum of 30 participants per session. No cost to participants.

Are you a WVU student turning 21?
No matter how you choose to celebrate, WELLWVU hopes you have a fun and safe 21st birthday!
During the month of your 21st birthday, be on the look out for an email from WELLWVU sent to your MIX account. The email includes helpful alcohol safety tips, and details for an opportunity to receive a Treats On Us card good for up to $12 toward a meal from any retail WVU dining location, and a chance to win a $250 Amazon gift card grand prize or to be 1 of 10 students selected to win a $100 Amazon gift card.
To receive your Treats On Us card and be entered for a chance to win a $100 gift card, you must complete a brief (5-7 minute) "ScreenU Alcohol" questionnaire. You will have access to this questionnaire and be given instructions to submit your certificate of completion after filling out a simple form provided in the 21st Birthday email from WELLWVU. The questionnaire is completely anonymous and will provide you with personalized feedback about alcohol use based on your individual responses.
