WELLAWARE

WELLAWARE is a 90-minute, interactive, bystander intervention training program. In this program, students learn how to realistically and effectively intervene in high-risk situations with their peers.

Alcohol is often an underlying factor in many of the serious issues that affect college students today. Alcohol poisoning, sexual violence (including rape, stalking and abuse within relationships), physical altercations, harassment, bullying and discrimination are prevalent on college campuses all over the country. All of these issues can have life-altering or deadly consequences. WELLAWARE encourages students to be prosocial and proactive by preventing harm to others or helping someone in need.

Students learn how to spot indicators of risk and build intervention skills. Students will know how they can make a positive difference through what they say and do.

When you’re aware, there’s a way…Be WELLAWARE.

Trust your gut. If something doesn’t feel right to you or if you see a concerning situation, know that you have options. To help you decide what to do, use one of The 3-D’s DIRECT, DELEGATE, or DISTRACT .

Direct:

Address the issue directly with the people involved. This doesn’t mean you have to be hostile, confrontational, or put your personal safety at risk. Keep it polite and casual.

Delegate:

Recruit others to help. This could be friends, other people in the area, a party host, bouncer, bartender, coach or the police.

Distract:

Interrupt the situation, “accidentally” spill a drink, call your friend’s phone to give them an out if someone is making them uncomfortable, redirect attention to something else.

Help someone if you feel they are in trouble.

Circle of 6

1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted during college. 1 in 6 men will experience sexual assault in their life. Use the Circle of 6 App to stay close, stay safe and prevent violence before it happens by using preprogrammed information to ask friends for help, and call or send your location when in need.
