WELLWVU and the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services (CCPPS) have obtained a national SAMHSA Suicide Prevention Grant to support the development of additional programs and services to bolster suicide prevention efforts at West Virginia University.
The grant provides funding for three years, during which time WELLWVU staff will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and community members to work towards the goals of the grants. Some projected activities associated with this grant include: the formation of a multidisciplinary suicide prevention task force to guide suicide prevention efforts, gatekeeper training to bolster the skills of key personnel and students in working with students in need, enhancing and leveraging social media and other marketing channels to disseminate information/resources related to suicide prevention, increased collaboration among campus and community partners, and more! The goal is to create a sustainable infrastructure to heighten awareness of and support suicide prevention, with the philosophy of “even one death by suicide is one death too many.”
